8th Continent

Each year The Jacques Rougerie Foundation holds two competitions, one in architecture and the other in art. The winner of the most recent architecture competition is this sea-faring floating facility designed to address our planet’s ocean pollution. Called “The 8th Continent” it came from the mind of Slovak designer Lenka Petráková, whose vision is of a cleaner Pacific Ocean. The station collects plastic from the water’s surface and breaks it down into recyclable material.
